Gibson Dunn Partners Named Among Most Powerful Employment Lawyers

Washington, DC partners Baruch Fellner, William Kilberg and Eugene Scalia were named among the 100 Most Powerful Employment Lawyers in the nation by Human Resource Executive magazine and Lawdragon, an online legal publication and directory.  Palo Alto partner Steven Fackler was included in the list of the Top 20 Most Powerful Lawyers for Employee Benefits and ERISA.  The lists were featured in the June 16, 2012 issue of Human Resource Executive magazine.

Gibson Dunn Receives Pro Bono Award From Legal Services for Children

Legal Services for Children presented Gibson Dunn with its “Pro Bono Partner” Award during its annual awards event on June 12, 2012 in San Francisco.  LSC recognized the exemplary work of Gibson Dunn’s San Francisco and Palo Alto attorneys in serving low-income children in the Bay Area during the past year, including Chris Bors, Fred Chung, Michael Dell, Rob Dunn, Christine Fujita, Ben Glickman, Christina Greenberg, Allison Kidd, Elvin Lee, Justin Liu, Jessica Ou, Lesley Pak, and Erica Weber, as well as several former associates.

In its 2012 edition, Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business awarded Gibson Dunn 56 first-tier rankings, of which 14 were firm practice group rankings and 42 were individual lawyer rankings.

Historic Decision Upholding Gay Marriage Stands

Today, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit denied a motion to reconsider its historic ruling in Perry v. Brown, which found Proposition 8 unconstitutional.  Proposition 8 rewrote the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in the state.Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP represented the plaintiffs in the case and in defending against the motion for reconsideration.“Today, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reaffirmed that gay and lesbian Americans are entitled to the same freedoms, equality, respect, and decency that all citizens value and cherish,” said Gibson Dunn partner Theodore B.

Mary Murphy Named Among Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business

The San Francisco Business Times named San Francisco partner Mary Murphy to its annual list of the Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business.  The list, which includes 150 women executives, recognizes those women “who have taken a leadership role in larger corporations, public, nonprofit and government agencies” and “are shaping Bay Area companies and communities.”   The list was published in the April 27, 2012 issue.

Gibson Dunn Receives Beacon of Justice Award

The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) recognized Gibson Dunn with its Beacon of Justice Award.  The award is given to those law firms “that have innovative public-private partnerships that deliver justice in their communities.”  Gibson Dunn was recognized for its work with the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund.  Award recipients will be honored at the NLADA Exemplar Award Dinner on June 6, 2012.

Daily Journal Names Six Partners to Top Women Lawyers List

Partners Ashlie Beringer, Catherine Conway, Ruth Fisher, Kay Kochenderfer, Marjorie Lewis and Debra Wong Yang were named to the Daily Journal’s list of Top Women Lawyers in California.  Beringer, Conway, Fisher, Kochenderfer and Wong Yang were named to the top 75 women litigators list, and Fisher was named to the list of the top 25 corporate women lawyers.

Jeff Reeves Recognized by Anti-Defamation League

The Anti-Defamation League has announced it will present Jeff Reeves with its Jurisprudence Award.  The award honors “true leaders in the legal community,” “who make outstanding contributions to the legal profession and to the community.”  The award will be presented at the Anti-Defamation League’s Annual Jurisprudence Awards Dinner on May 8, 2012 in Newport Beach.

Gibson Dunn Receives Pro Bono Award from New York State Bar

The New York State Bar Association honored Gibson Dunn with its 2012 President’s Pro Bono Service Award in the large law firm category.  The New York office of Gibson Dunn was recognized for donating more than 37,000 hours of pro bono work in 2011 on a wide range of issues, such as good government projects, immigration, transgender advocacy, holocaust survivors and domestic violence.   The award was presented at its annual Law Day luncheon on May 1, 2012.

Ted Boutrous Receives Achievement Award From USD

The University of San Diego presented Theodore Boutrous with its Author E. Hughes Career Achievement Award at its annual alumni honors program on April 28, 2012.  The award is given in recognition of “extraordinary accomplishments” of distinguished alumni and is presented annually to an alumnus/a from each of the five schools of the university.  Boutrous received his law degree, summa cum laude, from the USD in 1987, where he was valedictorian and editor-in-chief of the San Diego Law Review.

Gibson Dunn Authors Receive Burton Award

Los Angeles partner Michael Farhang and associate James Zelenay will receive a Burton Award for Legal Achievement for their article, “Handling Internal Investigations in the Executive Compensation Area.”  “[R]ecognizing and rewarding excellence in the legal profession,” the Burton Awards recognize “the best 35 law firm writers” “who use plain, clear and concise language in their writing.”  The awards event will be held at the Library of Congress on June 11, 2012.

On April 26, 2012, the Anti-Defamation League presented Los Angeles partner Debra Wong Yang with its prestigious Deborah Award, which honors “extraordinary women of achievement.”  The award was given in recognition for her “professional and philanthropic dedication to the Los Angeles community.”

Four Gibson Dunn Attorneys Named to The Recorder’s Fast Track List

The Recorder has named Gibson Dunn attorneys Theane Evangelis, Jim Abrams, Enrique Monagas and Joshua Jessen to its 2012 Lawyers on the Fast Track list.  The list features 50 California attorneys in their first 10 years out of law school “whose early accomplishments indicate they will be tomorrow’s top lawyers and leaders.”  The Recorder selected attorneys based on their work, community involvement and leadership within their firms or practice communities.  The feature will be published in the June 4, 2012 issue of The Recorder.

Daily Journal Names Wayne Barsky to Top IP Lawyers List

The Daily Journal has named partner Wayne Barsky to its 2012 list of the 75 Leading Intellectual Property Litigators.  Attorneys are selected based on the impact their work has had on intellectual property law.  Wayne was featured for his work representing Merck-Serono, Pfizer and EMD Serono in a patent infringement case involving a drug used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis, and for his work representing the Kennedy Institute in a patent case relating to the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

ASC Honors Gibson Dunn and Kay Kochenderfer

AIDS Service Center honored Los Angeles partner Kay Kochenderfer and Gibson Dunn for their long-time support of the organization.  ASC recognized the Firm for its pro bono work and as “a strong advocate” over the years and Kochenderfer as an “outspoken representative” for the group.  The award is presented as part of ASC’s 2012 Big Week Out.
