Aric Wu Named to Crain’s 40 Under 40 List

Crain’s New York Business named New York partner Aric Wu to its “40 Under 40,” an annual list of “40 of New York’s most ambitious young achievers.”  The honorees, who were selected from nearly 700 nominations,  “share an intense passion about their careers, they are tireless cheerleaders for their industries, and they pursue their goals with tenacity.”  The list and a profile of Aric Wu were published on March 26, 2012.

Gibson Dunn Shortlisted for Six Chambers USA Awards for Excellence

Chambers and Partners has shortlisted Gibson Dunn in four team categories and two individual categories for its annual USA Awards for Excellence.  The firm is nominated for team awards in Corporate/M&A, International Trade, Labor & Employment and Securities Regulation including Advisory and Enforcement.  Orin Snyder is one of seven individuals nominated in the Litigation: Business Trial Lawyers category and Joseph Warin is one of seven nominated in the Litigation: White Collar Crime & Government Investigations individuals category.

Gibson Dunn’s Appellate Group Named One of Top 5 Practices in California

The Daily Journal named Gibson Dunn’s Appellate and Constitutional Law Practice Group one of its 2011 Top Five Practice Groups in California, which featured “lawyers from five practice areas who are responding to an emerging issue or problem with innovative ideas.”  The publication recognized the group for its work on “marquee” high-profile cases, specifically “wins in the big Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Daniel Thomasch Admitted to American College of Trial Lawyers

New York partner Daniel Thomasch has been admitted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in America.  He was inducted during the College’s 2012 Spring Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona.  The College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the U.S.

Two Gibson Dunn Deals Named Deals of the Year

Asian-Mena Counsel magazine has named two Gibson Dunn matters among its annual list of Deals of the Year, which features 39 winning transactions selected “with an eye on uniqueness, innovation, size, and complexity.”  Singapore partner Saptak Santra represented the noteholders in the winning deal, “PT Mobile-8 Telecom Tbk: restructuring of guaranteed secured notes due 2012,” which was noted as “ground-breaking for its size, complexity and innovation.”  Also featured was the “Harbin Electric take private,” in which Los Angeles partner Jon Layne and associate Shawn Domzalski represented the Special Committee of the Board of Directors for Harbin.  The matter was noted as the “largest successful going private transaction to date,” winning recognition for its

The Times has named Charles Falconer to The Times Law 100 2012, its annual list of the 100 most influential lawyers in the United Kingdom. The lawyers were selected by a panel of 12 judges drawn from politics, the judiciary, academia, the media and the law.

California Lawyer Magazine Names Partner Theodore Boutrous as a Lawyer of the Year

California Lawyer featured partner Theodore Boutrous as an honoree in its 2012 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year Awards.  The CLAY Awards featured 55 attorneys in 19 areas of practice based on their achievements in the legal field in 2011.  Boutrous was honored for his work on behalf of Wal-Mart before the U.S.

In An Historic Decision, Ninth Circuit Declares California’s Proposition 8 Unconstitutional

On February 7, 2012, in an historic decision, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld the district court's decision finding Proposition 8 unconstitutional.  The Court reasoned that "[t]he People may not employ the initiative power to single out a disfavored group for unequal treatment and strip them, without a legitimate justification, of a right as important as the right to marry."  At bottom, "Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples."  Gibson Dunn's efforts were led by Theodore B.

IFLR Shortlists Three Gibson Dunn Deals

International Financial Law Review has included three Gibson Dunn deals on the shortlists for its annual Americas Awards.  The CityCenter Las Vegas refinancing is one of six nominees for the High Yield Deal of the Year; Harbin Electric’s going private transaction is one of seven nominees for M&A Deal of the Year; and Capital One’s forward sale is one of six nominees for the Structured Finance and Securitization Deal of the Year.  Winners will be announced at IFLR’s awards dinner on March 29, 2012.

GCR Ranks Gibson Dunn’s Antitrust Practice 11th Globally

Gibson Dunn’s antitrust practice was ranked 11th in the 2012 edition of Global Competition Review’s GCR100 - Global Elite ranking, a list of the top 20 antitrust practices in the world.  The Global Elite ranking is based on several factors:  size of the practice, global reach of the practice, number of lawyers listed in The International Who's Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists, stability of the practice (as measured by hires and departures), and the number of votes received from rival firms.  The firm was recognized for its work for Sabre, Chungwa, Intel, Matson Navigation and Applied Materials, among others.  Gibson Dunn was also ranked as an Elite firm in the United States: California section, as a Highly Recommended firm in the United States: Government A

Five Gibson Dunn Partners Named BTI Client Service All-Stars

BTI Consulting named Steven Finley, Stephen Glover, John Herfort, John Olson and Denis Salmon to its 2012 BTI Client Service All-Stars list, placing Gibson Dunn among only three other law firms with five Client Service All-Stars.  The All-Stars list features lawyers who “are identified solely and exclusively by corporate counsel” as “the leaders of client service excellence.”  In addition, BTI recognized John Olson, an All-Star for three consecutive years, as a one of only two Client Service All-Star 3-Year MVPs.

Jeffrey Le Sage Named to Daily Journal’s Top 20 Attorneys Under 40 List

The Daily Journal featured Los Angeles partner Jeffrey Le Sage on its annual list of Top 20 California Attorneys Under 40. The article highlighted Le Sage’s efforts to revitalize Lafayette Park in conjunction with the Heart of Los Angeles Youth (HOLA), an inner city youth organization, and the City of Los Angeles.

Gibson Dunn Tops Litigation Power Rankings

The Am Law Daily ranked Gibson Dunn No. 1 on its inaugural Litigation Power Rankings chart, which looks at the “25 firms whose litigators have fared the best in The American Lawyer’s biennial Litigation Department of the Year competition since it launched in 2002.”  According to The Am Law Daily, “Thanks to its second consecutive Litigation Department of the Year win, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher can also claim the distinction of being the most decorated law firm in the history of the biennial contest.”

The Lawyer has named London corporate partner Selina Sagayam to its annual “Hot 100” list.  The list features “100 high-achieving” lawyers in the UK who are “blazing a trail in their chosen fields.”  The list was published January 9, 2012.

Gibson Dunn Named Among 10 Firms on NLJ’s Pro Bono Hot List

Gibson Dunn was one of 10 law firms featured on National Law Journal’s 2012 Pro Bono Hot List.  The Firm was recognized for its work on Barrera v. Boughton, a suit filed in Connecticut district court on behalf of eight day laborers who were wrongly arrested by Danbury, Connecticut police in 2006, that was led by Joel Cohen.  A profile of the case ran in the January 2, 2012 issue.

Gibson Dunn Named Leading Tax Law Firm

In the 2012 edition of the Tax Directors Handbook, Gibson Dunn was recognized as a leading tax law firm in France, Germany and the United States.  In addition, the publication named Hatef Behnia to the Tax Directors Handbook 250, a list of the top global tax lawyers as recommended by clients, and it also separately recognized the following tax partners: Dora Arash, Jérôme Delauriére, Ariel Harroch, Paul Issler, Scott Knutson, Arthur Pasternak, David Rosenauer, David Sinak and Jeffrey Trinklein.
