BIOGRAPHY

Joerg Biswas-Bartz is an associate attorney in the Singapore office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and a member of the firm’s Litigation and White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice Groups.  Mr. Biswas-Bartz founded Gibson Dunn’s eDiscovery Working Group.

Mr. Biswas-Bartz’s practice focuses on internal and regulatory investigations and complex litigation.  He regularly advises clients on matters involving cross-border and complex eDiscovery topics.

In his pro bono practice, Mr. Biswas-Bartz works on humanitarian parole matters involving beneficiaries in Afghanistan.  In particular, he coordinates workstreams involving international human rights lawyers in these humanitarian parole matters.

Mr. Biswas-Bartz studied law at the University of Cologne and the University College London.  Before starting his legal clerkship, he worked as a research assistant at a renowned UK law firm based in Düsseldorf.  During his legal clerkship, Mr. Biswas-Bartz worked, inter alia, in the German embassy in Sri Lanka and in the litigation/eDiscovery department of an international pharmaceutical company in Germany.

Prior to joining the Singapore office of Gibson Dunn, Mr. Biswas-Bartz worked in the Washington, D.C. and San Francisco offices of the firm.

Mr. Biswas-Bartz received his LL.M. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law in 2017.  While at Berkeley, he specialized in U.S. civil procedure, complex U.S. litigation, and eDiscovery.  He is admitted as a German lawyer (Rechtsanwalt).  He is fluent in English and German.

Representative Matters

Representative matters handled by Mr. Biswas-Bartz include advising:

  • Mercedes-Benz and Daimler in an investigation relating to compliance with Clean Air Act requirements governing emissions after-treatment and in related settlement of civil claims with the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the California Air Resources Board. Lead member of discovery team that handled complex eDiscovery issues.
  • A multinational bank in an investigation related to KYC practices in Singapore and other jurisdictions.
  • A major e-commerce company in an FCPA investigation before the DOJ and the SEC relating to conduct in India.
  • A top 50 U.S. company in a significant Multi-District Litigation. Lead member of discovery team that managed reviewers and other stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
  • A U.S. technology company in responding to various European Commission antitrust investigations. Lead member of discovery team that handled complex eDiscovery issues.
  • A multinational telecommunications company in an FCPA investigation before the DOJ and the SEC.
  • A multinational chemical company in an accounting fraud investigation.
