Joel A. Kagan is an associate in the Litigation Department of Gibson Dunn, where he represents clients in complex commercial disputes and investigations across a range of industries, including financial institutions, media and entertainment, pharmaceuticals, and transportation and logistics. His work cuts across subject matter and includes antitrust, mass torts, contract disputes, debtor-creditor disputes, and other complex litigation.
Prior to joining the firm, Joel served as a paralegal in the Appeals Bureau of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. He received his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he was an Executive Editor of the New York University Law Review and a judicial intern to the Honorable Richard J. Sullivan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He earned his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied Philosophy, Politics & Economics (PPE) and was a member of the varsity heavyweight rowing team.
Joel maintains an active pro bono practice that includes representing clients in immigration and asylum matters, family court matters, veterans’ benefits appeals, and preparing appellate briefing in impact litigation involving significant public policy considerations at both the federal and state levels.
Joel is admitted to practice in New York State.
