BIOGRAPHY

Nathan C. Strauss is an associate in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He is a member of the Firm’s Litigation Practice Group.

Nathan has experience in a wide range of commercial litigation and white collar matters, including complex commercial litigation, securities litigation, class action litigation, internal investigations, and regulatory investigations. He has represented individuals and institutions in internal and government investigations brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, FINRA, the Department of Justice, and the New York Attorney General’s Office.

Nathan has been recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America for Commercial Litigation.

He graduated magna cum laude in 2013 from New York University School of Law, where he served as editor in chief of the Journal of Law and Liberty and as a research assistant for Professor Catherine M. Sharkey. In 2010, he earned his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University, where he also served as a news executive on The Harvard Crimson.

Recent representations include*

  • A global chemical and products manufacturer in connection with litigation seeking upwards of $1 billion in damages arising from a proposed deal relating to refinery cleaning technology, culminating in dismissal of claims at summary judgment;
  • A pharmaceutical company in connection with unfair trade practices and Medicaid fraud claims brought by state attorneys general in multiple state courts around the country;
  • A private equity manager in connection with an arbitration against his prior fund relating to improper accounting by the fund’s founders;
  • An investment banking firm in an expedited appeal to the Third Circuit regarding interpretation of corporate bylaws;
  • A Fortune 500 company in relation to a government investigation regarding corruption and corporate bribery;
  • A global investment bank in an arbitration and litigation against foreign institutional investors arising out of the financial crisis;
  • A hedge fund partner in an investigation by the Securities Exchange Commission regarding potential violations of SEC regulations and market manipulation;
  • An international bank in an investigation by the CFTC and other federal and state regulatory bodies regarding potential rate manipulation.

Nathan is admitted to practice in the State of New York, and before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
