Based in any US office, the Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing a team of Financial Analysts to ensure accurate financial reporting, firm-wide budget planning, and profitability analysis. They will also partner with firm leadership on strategic initiatives, attorney compensation modeling, and financial compliance to support informed decision-making and long-term planning.

The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical capabilities, a proactive mindset, and a background in professional services or law firm finance.

This role will report to the Associate Director, Finance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing and guiding the daily activities of a team of Financial Analysts, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with policies, and professional development of team members.
  • Monitoring and analyzing firm-wide financial performance, including revenue and expense trends, and profitability metrics.
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports and dashboards for executive leadership and partners.
  • Conducting profitability analysis by department, office, or timekeeper to support strategic decision-making.
  • Leading the annual budgeting and reforecasting processes in collaboration with department heads.
  • Managing financial planning models and scenario analysis for key initiatives and investments.
  • Partnering with HR and leadership to support attorney compensation modeling and bonus analysis.
  • Assisting with long-range planning, including working capital and firm growth initiatives.
  • Working with IT and operations teams to support financial data integrity and reporting enhancements.
  • Supporting firm leadership in developing business cases for operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Overseeing financial compliance with internal controls and supporting internal and external audit processes.

Qualifications

  • Experience partnering with legal leadership on financial strategy.
  • Understanding of professional services performance metrics and key financial drivers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Familiarity with financial compliance and internal audit processes.
  • Proven ability to present complex data in a clear, actionable format for senior leadership.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years of finance experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills; advanced Excel proficiency required.
  • Experience with law firm financial systems (e.g., Aderant, Elite 3E ) and BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

The annual compensation range for this position is $150-190k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
