A Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher team led by Theodore Boutrous Jr., Ilissa Samplin and Connor Sullivan secured a complete appellate victory for client Warner Bros. Discovery in a defamation suit brought by former Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider over the documentary “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” Schneider alleged the series falsely implied he had committed child sexual abuse. But California’s Second District Court of Appeal ordered the trial court to grant the defendants’ anti-SLAPP motion, finding the documentary wasn’t reasonably susceptible to that interpretation and expressly stated that an investigation found no evidence Schneider had abused children. The Gibson Dunn team included Zachary Freund, with co-counsel Vincent Chieffo and Alex Linhardt of Greenberg Traurig and Michael Grygiel, Kelly McNamee and Christina Hernsdorf of Foley Hoag.
