Robert F. Serio is a Partner-in-Charge in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and a co-chair of the firm’s national Securities Litigation Practice Group. His practice involves complex commercial and business litigation, with an emphasis on securities class actions, shareholder derivative litigation, SEC enforcement matters, ERISA litigation and corporate investigations. Recently, Mr. Serio appeared in The Best Lawyers in America 2010 edition.

He currently represents numerous underwriters in securities class action lawsuits involving more than $50 billion in mortgage pass-through certificates.  He has represented investment banking firms in connection with various securities and bankruptcy litigation matters, including prevailing in a class action filed in the Southern District of New York involving the sale of $2 billion of real estate partnership interests.

In addition, he has represented Cincinnati Bell, Inc., Veeco Instruments, Inc., The FINOVA Group Inc., Citiscape Corporation, Unilever, Bank Brussels Lambert, Swiss Bank Corporation, Banque Indosuez, Farmers Insurance Company, Dow Jones & Company, Inc., European American Bank, and Unibank.  In addition, he has represented secured bondholders of Trans World Airlines, Memorex Corp., Franklin Savings Association and CenTrust Bank.

Mr. Serio is a co-author of  Practising Law Institute's leading treatise on securities litigation entitled "Securities Litigations:  A Practitioner's Guide."  Routinely, he has been a guest lecturer on securities-related developments where he has presented on such topics as "Trends in Securities Litigation.”

Mr. Serio received a bachelor of arts degree cum laude from Harvard University in 1980, and a law degree from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1985.  From 1985 to 1987, he was associated with the firm of Shearman & Sterling in New York City.  Mr. Serio is a member of the New York and California bars.
