Maria Francisca Couto is a Portuguese qualified lawyer and a member of the Portuguese Bar, based in the Brussels office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She is a member of the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Group. Ms. Couto’ s practice encompasses all areas of competition law, with a strong focus on merger control filings (including EU and multijurisdictional) and cartel investigations. She has also experience in International Trade.
Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, Ms. Couto trained and practiced as an associate at the Lisbon and Brussels offices of a major Spanish firm. She has also completed internships in the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the UN Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva (Switzerland) and in the Competition Group of a leading firm in the Portuguese market.
Ms. Couto graduated from the NOVA University (Lisbon) – Faculty of Law in 2013 and received an LL.M. degree from the College of Europe in Bruges in 2014. In 2017, Ms. Couto also received a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics for Competition Law from King’s College London.
Ms. Couto is a native Portuguese speaker, fluent in English and Spanish and is also proficient in French.
