Edward D. Nelson is a partner in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.  He is a member of the Corporate Transactions and Private Equity Practice Groups.

Mr. Nelson's practice focuses on the organization and operation of private investment funds.  He has represented a wide variety of private investment funds, including buyout funds, venture capital funds, real estate funds, secondary funds, distressed funds, international funds and hedge funds.  Mr. Nelson also represents institutional investors in their private investment fund and other alternative investment activities; and he has significant experience in issues relating to the Securities Act, the Investment Company Act and the Investment Advisers Act. Recently Mr. Nelson appeared in The Legal 500 US 2009 edition and was nominated to the International Financial Law Review 2008 as a leading lawyer in Investment Funds.

Mr. Nelson joined Gibson Dunn in 2008.  His investment fund clients include American International Group, Credit Suisse, Graham Partners, Intermedia Partners, Inverness Graham Investments, J.H. Whitney Capital Partners, Kuwait Investment Authority, Neuberger Berman Alternative Investments (formerly Lehman Brothers), Olympus Partners and Vantage Properties.

Mr. Nelson is a member of the Committee on Private Investment Funds of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.  He earned his Juris Doctor cum laude, in 1994 from Harvard Law School and his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in 1989 from Dartmouth College.  Mr. Nelson also holds a Masters of Public Policy from Harvard University and a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge.
