Rustin Mangum is an associate in the Orange County office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where he practices in the firm’s Litigation Department. Mr. Mangum’s practice focuses on all types of intellectual property and complex litigation including patents, trademarks, trade secrets and copyrights. He has extensive experience in fact and expert discovery, motions practice and alternate dispute resolution.
Mr. Mangum also serves as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate for the United States Air Force Reserves where his work focuses on military law including criminal prosecution under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), operational and international law, and civil law support for military members and their dependents.
Mr. Mangum earned his law degree in 2011 from the William & Mary School of Law, where he served as an editor of the William & Mary Law Review. While in law school, he was inducted into Order of the Coif and The Order of the Barristers and was selected to compete in a number of national mock trial competitions. Notable results include winning the Stetson University National Pretrial Competition and the Phi Alpha Delta National Mock Trial Tournament, and competing as a regional finalist in the ABA Trial Advocacy Competition. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1997 from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah with a major in Physics.
Prior to law school, Mr. Mangum served as a pilot and officer in the United States Air Force where he flew over 100 combat and combat support missions in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
Mr. Mangum is admitted to practice in California and before the Central District of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals.
